Indiana's frequent moves during his childhood, a total of 21 different homes by the time he was only seventeen years old, are largely credited as developing his affinity for numbers. Personal connections influence the specific numbers Indiana includes in his work; he frequently draws from significant memories in his own life, such as previous home addresses, as well as the overarching cycle of life, encompassing the progression from birth to death.
