An ebony netsuke of a crab on a rockBy Shukuto, Iwami Province, early 19th centuryThe small crab with one pincer pulled in towards its body, resting on the top of a high rock which bears distinctive striations, signed Iwami-shu (Iwami-no-kuni) Enokawa Seiyodo no otoko Shukuto chokoku (carved by the Eno River in Iwami Province by Shukuto, son of Seiyodo). 4.2cm (1 5/8in).注脚黒檀彫根付 巌に乗る蟹 銘 「石見州可愛河青陽堂男粛騰彫刻」 19世紀前期Published:Rokusho 20, p.62, no.85.Earle, Huthart, p.149, no.130.A rare example by Shukuto, son of Seiyodo Tomiharu.
