此件笔筒以整块紫檀木料旋挖内膛制作而成，包浆莹润，色泽古雅深沉。圆口唇边，口缘光滑圆润，使得整器更具规整华丽之感，可见匠心，器身微微束腰，底部凸出弦纹一道，与圆唇相呼应，玉璧形圈底，下承矮足。整器装饰简约，完美展现紫檀材质所特有的纹理之美，彰显沉郁之气质，为难得一见的清早期文房珍品。明末清初之际是笔筒工艺发展的鼎盛时期，竹、木、牙、瓷等各种材质争奇斗艳，不一而足。由于紫檀生长期长，质地坚硬致密，入水即沉，亦被选用为素材之一，且色调深沉，纹理织细浮动、变化无穷，所制器物大多采用光素，以彰显本身纹理之华美。该紫檀笔筒选材精良，造型规整，形制高洁，色沉而雅，包浆莹润典雅，熠熠有光，置于案头，美观怡人，全器气韵古朴，深具文人钟爱的素雅气息，为文房案头佳品。
