A large bronze incense burner, cover and standDated by inscription 12th year of Guangxu (1887)
The body cast in high relief with sea creatures on a wave pattern ground, the cover reticulated with the Eight Trigrams, with seated Buddhist lion finial, the tripod stand in openwork with blossoming prunus branches, the base with a six-line inscription, which may be translated as:
'In the twelfth year of Guangxu, Liang Ding Fen from Pan Yu was teaching at Feng Hu Academy. In the Autumn, a temple was built for the purpose of cultural activities and this censer was therefore made for these ceremonies'. 54cm (21.1/4in) high including stand. (3).注脚Provenance: From the Collection of Major Geoffrey Frank Jackson (1922-2018). Major Jackson served in the 3rd Battalion 9th Gurkha Rifles at Jhikar gacha Ghat and subsequently for the Chindit Operations in Burma. In March 1946 he returned to Singapore and was transferred to Malay Command HQ.
