The guardian is powerfully modelled standing upon a stand, body slightly turned to the right, both hands resting upon his sword which is missing, wearing full armor with large circular gilt breast plates with semi-precious gem, shoulder with a cape, both arms with mythical beast gilt elbow armor, face with stern expression, with large eyes and broad nose, tightly fitted with helmet embellished with semi-precious gems. Tang Dynasty period. For a similar lishi guardian figure, however carved in marble and in pair, are included in the exhibition China, Dawn of Golden Age 200 - 750 A.D in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York 2004, cat.no.231
