Footnotes: Many still lifes in museums which are now given to Abraham Calraet had, like the present composition, once been thought to be by Aelbert Cuyp and we are grateful to Alan Chong for suggesting Abraham Calraet as a plausible attribution for this painting. The peaches are especially typical of his works, although later British artists also painted in this manner.
