A fine Satsuma bowl Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926) era, circa 1900 The deep bowl with straight sides finely painted in polychrome enamels and gilt over a clear, crackled glaze, the exterior decorated with shaped panels containing Chinese immortals and attendants engaged in various activities, each panel separated by formal lappets of geometric, floral, or honeycomb patterns, the interior with swathes of textile decorated with further floral or geometric patterns and a scene of Chinese immortals and children in a festival dance, the remaining surface area painted with butterflies and blossoming cherry trees decorated with paper markers, signed on the underside in gilt Kozan 5 1/2in (14cm) diameter
