|笔筒以沉香木随形雕刻而成，平口，中部略有束腰，过渡自然。筒壁集高浮雕和阴刻等技法于一体，满雕深山人物故事图，其中云雾缭绕，峰峦迭起，山崖峭壁险峻，苍翠秀润，近处古松参天，傲然挺拨。整件笔筒雕工细腻，琢制有序，画面构图疏密有致，远近相映，刻划入微，生动传神，旋转观之有如绘画横卷逐渐展开，转折自然娴熟。明、清两代，宫廷皇室皆崇尚用沉香制成各类文房佳器，但由于沉香木珍贵且多朽木细干，用之雕刻，少有大材。此件置于案头，赏心悦目，深合文人闲雅温厚之品性，充分体现了古代文人向往超脱世外的生活情趣。
