壶呈扁长方瓶形，直口，带皮白玉制成，作者极具巧思，利用玉本身的皮色，雕出刘海与蟾两位主体。另有荷叶山水，画面栩栩如生。苏作雕工玉器，代表着南方工艺，又称南方作。苏作玉器尤其多见雕刻精巧的精品。“良玉虽集京师，工巧则推苏郡”就是其真实的写照，清代乾隆时期苏作工艺达到鼎盛，苏作鼻烟壶也成为各地要员仅供给皇帝的贡品，凭借着苏州工匠的聪明才智，创造了一批具有深远影响的苏作作品，这些作品至今仍散发着他们的独特艺术魅力与极高的艺术价值。
