Edo period (1615-1868), 1670-1690 The baluster body with a narrow waisted neck and tall cylindrical mouth section with a pinched spout and loop handle, painted in underglaze blue with a leaping shishi within a roundel on a ground of karakusa ('Chinese grasses') and stylised flowers; the silver lid probably Dutch with a bifurcated thumb piece. 23cm (9in) high.
