Edo period (1615-1868), 17th/18th century Conceived after a Dutch model probably in metal, each of a tapering cylindrical form with a low cover and pointed knop, each with a hole on one side for a tap to be fitted in Europe, the first painted in underglaze blue with exotic long-tailed birds perched among pomegranate, with European gilt bronze mounts, 37cm (14¾in) high; the second on tripod feet painted in underglaze blue and iron-red and gilt enamels with lobed panels enclosing different bird-and-flower scenes, 33cm (13in) high.
