此件香薰以银为材，制作精细，整体为球状，以镂空工艺制成。内嵌钱币纹圆柱体胆，以置香料之用。附一提携，刻有八卦龙纹，底部有“足银”二字。香薰球是古代用来薰香衣被的奇巧器具，其原理与陀罗仪相似，即无论薰球如何转动，内置承盘始终保持水平状态，使其中香料安全燃烧。在唐代，香薰球已经被贵族普遍使用，是彼时极为典型的香具用器。
