Edo period (1868-1912) to Meiji era (1868-1912), mid-19th to early 20th century A folding album titled Shunsetu higi (Secret Pleasure in the Time of Spring Snow) with middle-size shunga paintings and prints, mounted with the corresponding subjects side by side depicting different couples making love, consisting of one page of preface, seven pages of paintings in ink, colour and gold on silk, five pages of Utamaro-style prints (severely-trimmed), three pages of 'bird-and-flower' painting and a print of bust-portrait of a couple and 15 pages of text; unsigned except for the three small 'bird-and-flower' paintings signed Setsuzan. Overall: 21cm x 28cm (8¼in x 11in); each image: approx., 17cm x 25.5cm (6 11/17in x 10 1/16in).
