铭文： 朴而文，见天真。雍正改元癸卯十月，南村。 砚随形而作，形制在方圆之间，饱满厚重，开淌池，光素无纹饰，砚背深开覆手。色紫红，石质细腻，锋芒内蕴，下发墨极佳。铭者简介： 高凤翰（1683～1749），字西园，号南村、南阜、云阜、石道人等，山东胶州人。曾官安徽歙县知县，泰州巡盐分司。擅诗文、书法、绘画、篆刻。五十五岁时因右臂病废，书法篆刻乃以左手为之，毅力惊人。爱砚成癖，藏砚多至千余方，为“扬州八怪”之一。
