Holtzapffel & Company Converted Ornamental Turning Lathe No. 2277 with Extensive Collection of Accessories, London, 1872, mahogany bench with iron bed, traversing mandrel headstock, screw barrel, and tailstock hand rest, star nut dividing and segmental apparatus, ten brass rosettes, pillars, followers, associated overhead drive, and a large Evans slide rest adapted and fitted with Ashton's automatic stops, outfitted with an electric motor, (lacking the treadle), lg. 52 in.Note: Originally sold to Thomas John Ashton, Esq., October 4, 1872. It was converted to a Rose Engine lathe by Harry Smith Frost between 1877 and 1891. In 1955, Fredrick Howe, a founding member of the Society of Ornamental Turners, acquired the lathe. Fred passed in 1982 and the lathe was sold by Christie's in 1983 to Dr. Robert H. Cameron, a longtime member of the S.O.T. and the O.T.I.
