此砚为明代古物。选材端石老坑，整体为椭圆形，。砚冈雕刻蓬莱仙山楼阁图。群楼玉宇。隐于山风海涛间。中间为蓬莱阁。线条挺拔流畅。石质细腻温润，边缘刻海水纹。砚周身一圈，刻满各种的神兽，遨游海中，海翻水卷，一片祥瑞！此砚规格硕大，用料考究，纹饰精美，为同时期砚作题材之精品。它与兰亭砚，太史砚一样，都是传统的经典砚式。
