AN IZNIK POTTERY DISHOTTOMAN TURKEY, CIRCA 1600AN IZNIK POTTERY DISHOTTOMAN TURKEY, CIRCA 1600The white ground decorated under the glaze in cobalt-blue, bole-red, turqouise and black, the central rosette with whirling rumi design against a turquoise ground surrounded by radiating lobed panels in the cavetto, the rim with stylised 'wave and rock' motif, the exterior with alternating flowerhead and stylised floral sprays11 7/8in. (30cm.) diam. The central medallion on this dish harks back to the swirling designs of early Balkan metalwork and fifteenth century Baba Nakkaş ceramics (Nurham Atasoy and Julian Raby, Iznik: the Pottery of Ottoman Turkey, London, 1989, p. 79). A dish with a similar turquoise floral medallion is in the collection of the Château d’Écouen, F. Hitzel and M. Jacotin, Iznik: l’aventure d’une collection, Paris, 2005, p.257. The rumi design around the medallion is comparable to those on a dish in the collection of Ömer M. Koç (H. Bilgi, The Ömer Koç Iznik Collection, Istanbul, 2015, p.431). A small rimless dish with a similar medallion design was sold in Christie’s South Kensington, April 13 2010, lot 240.细节 AN IZNIK POTTERY DISHOTTOMAN TURKEY, CIRCA 1600The white ground decorated under the glaze in cobalt-blue, bole-red, turqouise and black, the central rosette with whirling rumi design against a turquoise ground surrounded by radiating lobed panels in the cavetto, the rim with stylised wave and rock motif, the exterior with alternating flowerhead and stylised floral sprays11 7/8in.
