A PAIR OF JAPANESE CLOISONNE VASES MEIJI ERA, 19TH CENTURY Of tall baluster shape, each decorated with a large bird of prey perched on a branch of flowering prunus, on a deep midnight-blue ground, both vases with bands of triangular lappets above the foot and under the rim, both 38.5cm. (2) Provenance: from the collection of Frederick Sutton, Mayor of Salisbury (1912-13), Wiltshire, and thence by descent.
