彭玉麟（1816-1890），字雪琴，号退省庵主人、吟香外史，祖籍衡永郴桂道衡州府衡阳县（今衡阳市衡阳县渣江），生于安徽省安庆府（今安徽安庆）。清朝晚期军事家、书画家，人称“雪帅”。湘军水师创建者、中国近代海军奠基人。所绘梅花“老干繁枝，鳞鳞万玉”，被曾国藩称为“兵家梅花”，其“诗书皆超俗”。诗文作品由友人俞樾整理，分为《彭刚直公奏稿》《彭刚直诗集》。
