砚取端石，随性雕就，石料颇丰，砚额微隆，琢蕉叶纹肌理，叶脉清晰，富写实感。砚面稍矮处打磨作砚池，光素平滑，与蕉叶纹形成鲜明比对，动静相宜，也体现出了大自然与匠人巧思相结合所创造出的富有文人意趣之物。砚侧及砚背保留端石原有的自然之态，背部稍加打磨，并刻“雁湖堂士陶俗原藏”；“驾鸿”。
