The gu-form vase skillfully painted in colored enamels and gilt over a clear, crackled glaze with multi-registered friezes, the upper most decorated with a variety of insects, the lowest with fish and other sea creatures behind a fishing net, and two central friezes decorated with blossoming flowers, all punctuated by bands of geometric or floral patterns, the interior of the mouth painted with stiff lappets of checker-board design, signed on the underside Kyoto Kinkozan tsukuru Sozan ga (made by Kinkozan of Kyoto; painted by Sozan)
