By Seizan, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Decorated in enamels and gilt, the body with a continuous scene of groups of figures including four elegantly clad young ladies, a couple on a bench, a family, a father and children playing a hide and seek, all on the shores of a lake enjoying the autumnal evening amongst coloured maple trees and autumnal foliage comprising susuki (miscanthus), fuyo (cotton rose mallow), hagi (bush clover) and hageito (Joseph's coat), the shoulder with three lobed cartouches enclosing birds and flowers, the reticulated cover with middle-class ladies strolling along the shores of a lake; signed on the base Dai Nihon Kyoto Seizan seizo (Made by Seizan, Kyoto, Great Japan). 14cm x 17.5cm (5½in x 6 7/8in).
