By Okamoto Ryozan, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Finely painted in enamels and gilt, the body inset with a hexagonal lobed panel on one side depicting figures gathered outside a teahouse nestled beneath flowering cherry trees, two men resting on the bench outside, a peasant girl carrying a basket of fruit on her head and a farmer leading his laden mule in the foreground, the other zig-zag shaped panel depicting an exotic long-tailed bird perched on a flowering plum branch, the frame embellished with a confronting pair of ho-o birds and repeated foliate motifs, the top and sides decorated with stylised roses and fern; signed in gilt Ryozan above the Yasuda Company trade mark. 19cm x 19.6cm (7½in x 7¾in).
