A RARE PAIR OF CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER RECTANGULAR PANELS Qianlong One carved in relief depicting Su Dongpo and his guests on a boat cruising past the Red Cliff, the other panel depicting Wang Xizhi in the Orchid Pavilion, with cups of wine floating down the stream before him, amidst bamboo and gnarled rocks, both set within wood frames inlaid with metal wire. Each 21.7cm (8 1/4in) high x 16cm (6 1/4in) wide (including frame). (2). Footnotes: Please note this Lot is to be sold at No Reserve. 本拍品不設底價 清乾隆 剔紅「蘭亭宴集」及「夜遊赤壁」圖掛屏一對 One panel depicts Wang Xizhi at the famous Orchid Pavilion gathering near Shanyin, Zhejiang Province, to celebrate the 'Spring Purifying Ceremony' in the ninth year of the Yonghe reign (353 AD). This, as well as Su Dongpo's visit to the site where he wrote his famous history poem Ode to the Red Cliff, are among the two most popular designs in Chinese art.
