First appearing in the Rolex catalogue for the Italian market, it was the transition model between the earlier non-Oyster cased Rolex chronograph and the upcoming Daytona model. The 'Pre-Daytona' with the silvered dial was the first Rolex chronograph to be fitted with the sunburst finished dial, officially referred to as 'cadran soleil argent'. This new dial finish and baton-shaped hands can be found on many Rolex Daytona chronographs up to the mid 1980s.
